Hello Pinoylifers (and the brand new army of haters – thanks for the traffic). 2009 is starting off strong for Pinoy stand-up comedy. Jo Koy had his first hour long special air on Comedy Central in early January and on January 19, Edwin San Juan’s SlantEd Comedy show had its first Showtime taping that featured Edwin, Bernadette Balagtas, Joey Guila, Dan Gabriel, Ron Josol, and Paul Ogata.
Here are some photos from the January 19th SlantEd Comedy show taping at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.
On a personal note, I’ve seen these Pinoy comedians working the stand-up comedy scene for nearly a decade and it’s great to see them finally get a Showtime special. A big congrats needs to go to Edwin for creating the SlantEd show four years ago and getting it this far.
To Edwin San Juan, Dan Gabriel, Bernadette Balagtas, Joey Guila, Ron Josol, Rex Navarrete, Jo Koy, Air Tabigue, Justin Rivera, Mark Fernandez, Al Manalo, Kevin Camia, and every other Filipino American or Filipino Canadian Stand-Up comic that has busted their ass on a stage to make people laugh… thank you. I’m really proud of all that you have contributed to Filipino American humor and I’m proud of all the work you have done to put Pinoys on the Stand-Up comedy map.
