Some Dos and Don’ts for Pinoy Audiences
Hello Pinoylifers. It feels good to be back. If you haven’t done so, please check the article about the Lea Salonga concert. It was a great show and if she ever gets booked to play at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with a full orchestra again, I strongly recommend going.
That being said, I did have some observations regarding Filipino behavior at the event and I just wanted to share a few things with all of you in the hopes that we, as a people, don’t look like complete ‘tards at the next formal concert.
Do dress up nicely if you are going to attend a concert with an orchestra and a world class vocalist.
Don’t wear your L.A. Lakers windbreaker, Lacoste polo and Old Navy denim shorts if you are going to attend a concert with an orchestra and a world class vocalist.
Do applaud and cheer the artist to show your appreciation for their craft.
Don’t insist on using flash photography with your snuck in digital camera or camera phone after being repeatedly told to not use flash photography. (Note to the ushers, it’s not a cultural thing so feel free to boot these fools if they keep disobeying the rules)
Do sing along when the artist is encouraging the audience to sing a chorus or verse.
Don’t sing when the artist is doing a vocal jazz solo with an acoustic guitar accompaniment. Was it really necessary for the guy next to me to hum the melody to “Someone to Watch Over Me” while Lea was singing it? I didn’t pay $100 a ticket to listen to Tito fuck up Lea’s songs. If I wanted to do that, I could have spent $20 on alcohol at Max’s house of fried chicken in Glendale and listen to drunk uncles sing shit all night.
Do try to bring that special someone to the concert for a really nice date.
Don’t expect to get any if you take your special date to a Lea Salonga concert. As dope as she is vocally, I’m yet to meet a chick that gets in the mood after hearing Disney songs and Broadway tunes. I’m not saying those people don’t exist, I’m just saying I’m yet to meet anyone of that ilk.
And finally…
Do enjoy the wonderful acoustics of the Walt Disney Concert Hall
Don’t ever fart inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The acoustics are THAT good.
